To produce, Gorby 80 – a concert celebration of Mikhail Gorbachev’s 80th anniversary, in aid of The Gorbachev Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support, held at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
WHAT WE DID
With just 4 weeks to go before the event LarMac LIVE were approached by Kometa Production and The Gorbachev Foundation and were charged with Producing the one-night televised spectacular.
Gorby 80 was hosted by Kevin Spacey and Sharon Stone, featuring live appearances and a fusion of classical and popular music by leading artists including Dame Shirley Bassey, Bryan Ferry, The Scorpions, Katherine Jenkins, Paul Anka and Melanie C among others, some performing unique collaborations accompanied by the 92 piece London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) conducted by Valery Gergiev. On top of musical elements, three humanitarian ‘Mikhail Gorbachev: the man who changed the world Awards’ – Glasnost, Perestroika and Uskoreniye – were presented during the evening by special guests including Shimon Peres and Arnold Schwarzenegger, honouring the contributions of those who have made a difference to culture and society. LarMac LIVE were responsible for all show elements; from artist logistics, venue liaison, health and safety, offsite rehearsals, creative delivery, technical provision and management, TV facilitation (17 camera shoot), and showcalling.
A truly amazing night was had by all, including millions on TV – all delivered within 30 hours on site.
